About the Author
STACEY ROBINSON, MD is one of the leading experts in Functional Medicine, inspiring and empowering people to transform their lives and achieve optimal health. Board certified in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine, she graduated with honors from Tulane University and served as an officer in the United States Air Force. She is founder and CEO of Robinson MD in St Petersburg, Florida where she lives with her husband and two children. Dr. Robinson was born and raised in Red Bluff, a rural town in northern California. When she entered undergrad at California State University at Long Beach, she only knew that she had a deeply ingrained need to care for people. After she realized that medicine was her calling, she attended Tulane University School of Medicine on an Air Force scholarship, graduating at the top of her class in 1996. She completed her residency at Travis Air Force Base. Being a part of the Air Force was one of the best experiences of her life. She proudly served in the Air Force from 1996-2003, serving as medical director of the MacDill Primary Care Clinic, caring for our troops, their families, and retired service members. After her service, she worked in various practice types, all pressuring doctors to attain quantity over quality. Over those years, she came to the sad realization of the futile way in which she was practicing medicine – not enough time with patients leading to more medications and less true healing. In 2008, she opened Robinson MD so she could care for patients in a more thorough, individualized way. Their mission is to empower and inspire you to achieve your best health. Dr. Robinson is board-certified in Family Medicine and Integrative Medicine. She is also a member of the Institute for Functional Medicine and the American Academy of Private Physicians. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, scuba diving, cooking delicious and nutritious food, photography, and creating beautiful scrapbooks for her family. She lives in St Pete Beach with her husband David and two children.

This is a comprehensive book to help you understand what is wrong with our national approach to health and what we can do to help ourselves get the best treatment within (or outside of) the system. Dr. Robinson is schooled in Functional Medicine, which takes the time to look at the root causes of disease (rather than covering them up with prescriptions). Dr. Robinson explains seven steps including nutrition, exercise, being outdoors, stress relief, and hormone replacement therapy. As a Certified Nutritional Counselor myself, I was pleased to see how comprehensive Chapter 5, “Fuel Your body With Real Food†was. There are additional resources at the end of the book, showing that Dr. Robinson is really trying with this book to help a broad base of people (who might not be able to afford concierge level medical treatment). I appreciate her efforts to get this very important information to the masses. The stories of actual patients creates a nice read (balancing information with story telling). Bravo Dr. Robinson!
I am a psychologist. Having just published a book on treating depression, anger and anxiety without medicaiton (the book is called Prescriptions Without Pills: For Relief from Depression, Anger, Anxiety, and More), I was delighted to discover Road Map to Health. I greatly appreciate how it filled in the blanks for me about the downsides of specific medications, many of which actually undermine, for instance, a healthy gut. Pills are not "health care," but rather disease remediation. If you seek genuine healthcare, this book offers a great place to start.
Years ago, at the beginning of what is now sometimes referred to as a healthy food revolution, I had the good fortune to meet and work in association w/ Alice Waters and become good friends with Deborah Madison. Stacey Robinson bring to life the best of what these two famous chefs, writers and proponents of quality and taste, lifestyle and health are bringing forward.Food is medicine, food enables health, and the type of medicine Dr. Robinson is practicing and advocating can bring forth a healthy living revolution.Combining eating and exercise w/ the best of modern medicine (when needed but not a pill-for-anything-and-everything) is right for many of us as we navigate the challenges of modern life on-the-go."Road Map to Health" is a guidebook, easy to read, understand and follow. Its directions offer quality of life and a sustaining lifestyle. When we eat food that nourishes the body, the spirit is nourished too.Stacey is in good company. I'm reminded of writers who speak of food and health. Michael Pollan. Eric Schlosser, John Robbins, "Seeds of Change". Changing the national diet. As Dr. Robinson talks 'the basics', it's as if we're listening to a national health care plan that would change the practice of medicine toward prevention, saving money, saving lives and intervention that goes beyond treating symptoms.Stacey Robinson speaks of Functional Medicine. Her prescriptions are Smart Medicine. I highly recommended "Road Map to Health". It's a keeper, a gift for friends, an investment in ourselves and our families.
Beware about loaning your book out, you may not get it back! am 80 years old. I don’t have any health issues but I do care about continuing to be healthy. I don’t want to become a burden to anyone.I bought this book for something to read on my vacation in Cancun, Mexico. I found it easy to read and very informative. I am not going to do everything that Dr. Robinson recommends. For example, I find exercising boring. That doesn't mean that I never have exercised, I just don’t like to do it anymore.I have implemented some changes in my diet as a consequence of reading the book. I no longer use margin and I have stopped cooking with canola oil. I had my wife wash our celery with the wash Dr. Robinson recommends. I am thinking about making some other changes. I loaned my book to my next door neighbor with two young kids. When I tried to get it back she said read it and loaned it to a friend.
While being on a journey to improve my health, I was fortunate to have been introduced to "Road Map to Health". This book is easy to read, very understandable, and highly adaptable to anyone's lifestyle. It was refreshing to know that there are physicians out there that are truly passionate about helping people feel better and who want to show you how to do that in a practical and natural way, using the resources that God has given us through food, exercise, and rest. Dr. Robinson is one of those physicians! Her insight and wisdom into how she practices medicine is invaluable. I recommend this book to anyone who is looking not be on a "diet", but who is truly wanting to live a more healthy lifestyle that is easily obtainable.#roadmap2health
Easy to read, clear cut advice on getting on top of your health. The rationale behind and the elements in Functional Medicine are well explained, along with practical steps that can be followed. So put don the doughnuts and pick up the book!. This common sense health plan may cut your pharmacy bill OR reduce the trips to the doctors. At the least, following this advice will put a spring in your step and a bounce in your mod, and very likely extend your life! Thanks Dr R!

I read a book or two a year (plus many articles) to refresh and expand my knowledge and motivation toward good nutrition and exercise. I liked this book immediately, as it is highly readable, with tight paragraphs and sentences that convey their message concisely. I also liked that it is by a practicing physician, who gives pointed critiques of current medical practices, drug companies, food companies and insurance practices - all spot-on per my decades of experience.
