This book contains every form of needlework that I can think of. I bought my copy in 1980 when it was first published, but It is no longer in print, so I ordered it from a reseller and I was surprised when it arrived: There are no more copies of the book published in the US, and those now available, even in the US, were published by Readers Digest Ltd of Canada. The book is exactly like mine, but there are charts giving American, British, and metric needle sizes for such items as crochet hooks, knitting needles, and tapestry needles. As far as I know, there are no other differences -- I didn't check for American vs British spelling of certain words -- color/colour, theater/theatre. Overall, even with the charts, it is still the most complete and comprehensive book on needlework that I have ever seen.

This book has everything in it that has to do with picking up a needle. It's also a big thick book. Its like the Bible of needlework.Embroidery, Needlepoint, Knitting, applique, Quilting, Patchwork, macrame, Crochet, Rug-making, and Lacework. Its colorful and has nice readable diagrams. It tells you about everything you need to know regarding each individual needlework in detail.Except bead weaving , which is why I think I bought it, can't remember but the other needlework is fascinating.

This book is a timeless and comprehensive classic. There are multiple how-to books that have been effectively replaced by YouTube or other net-based tutorials and information, but this is THE resource for learning how to do many different kinds of needlework, including several older, traditional types of embroidery. I refer to it all the time, and even though some of the projects look slightly outdated, the core information is invaluable. Anyone who does needlecraft should have a copy of this book. .

I checked this book out of the library so many times during the eighties, I might as well have just kept it. I've been looking for it for a few years now, and am so happy to have found it again!I went from a beginning knitter to an intermediate one, just by following its diagrams.I used it for crochet and needlepoint too.Now I'm buying it for my husband, who wants a refresher on macrame.Love this book so much!

I had this book a long time ago and used it to always refresh me on any needle work I might want to do. I lost this book in a tornado and was thrilled to find it again on amazon. I now have one of my favorite books again. This book has everything. The instructions are large and even if you are a beginner I believe you could learn how to do any kind of needlework you wanted. I would recommend this book highly as a teaching book or just to refresh you memory. Hope it's always out there to find

I love Reader's Digest instructional/informational books. It has lots of pictures and diagrams, supply and tool lists. I like having visual instructions right at my fingertips whenever I get the urge to get crafty. I can't always get to the computer (we have a shared computer) so this is perfect. It was delivered before the expected delivery date too!

I recently bought three of these books because I got mine many years ago and have found it to be an excellent resource for instructions that I returned to many times over the years. My niece wanted to learn how to knit and crochet (she's a new mom). I told her about the book that I had. When I got home I thought maybe Amazon might still have printings of it. Sure enough, you did! So, I ordered three: One for my daughter, one for my niece, and one for my younger sister. Only a few days ago, I referred back to my book to refresh my memory on how to do smocking. I wouldn't take anything for mine!
