I ordered this book hoping it would provide a little more information for my 4 year-old than her "inside body book" with crude drawings, since she's very curious about the body. Unfortunately, it doesn't really have all the actual anatomy information, with pictures, that I had hoped. It's a good reference book to have, but it's not a kids' anatomy book. Similar to other reviews I've read of the various DK Encyclopedias, I find it a little disorganized. Its almost like the authors had a big board of information on a topic and just threw darts to decide which things to include and what order to put them in.

My 4 year old picks this book up just to read it on his own, which is AWESOME. Very age appropriate with tons of points of interest. Does not in any way show genitalia if you are worried about that. The reproductive cycle pages just show a microscope image of an egg with sperm around it and there are cartoonish drawings of the womb with ovaries and of the cells dividing to become a fetus. For the excretory system there are also just very basic drawings of the bladder, intestines and kidneys to give the overall idea of how everything works. I knew that it would be great since it's DK which is what I grew up with. I was totally obsessed with their books from the 90s and pick them up whenever I see them. Highly recommend this one for curious kids!

Came in great new condition, no dents or rips. Hard cover. Nice bright, colorful illustrations along with text. Keeps my child engaged while reading. I’d recommend ages between 3/4 - 8/9. It’s great to use as fast reference when working on our homeschool learning.Got it also for a great steal, less than 5 bucks. I wouldn’t have spent more than 10 dollars on it (I would’ve just borrowed books from the library).

My kids (ages 5-9) LOVE this book. It is full of information and colorful pictures. The pictures are realistic and the information are written for children. My kids love that there are activities to do with every topic in the book. What I love most is that the book does not go into great detail about how a baby is born, but does include little information on the reproductive system. I often find my boys picking this book out and perusing through it. They also love to tell me what they have learnt from the book. Overall this book is wonderful addition to our growing library.

This has been the bedtime book of choice for the past week. My son has been really interested in bones and how the body works, so I bought this book because of the good reviews. At first I was put off by the style of the drawn illustrations. The lines are wiggly and drawings more abstract than we've been used to in other body books. But I've since changed my mind. There are a lot of photographic illustrations in here, and the contrasting style of the hand drawn (or computer hand drawn) illustrations makes it clear they are merely representations. Children won't confuse the drawings for the real thing. This is important because the book is jam packed with images. In addition to drawings there are photos of all types of children, x-rays and scanning electron microscope images. Each 2 page spread covers one topic. All major systems are covered - cells, body organization, bones and muscles, nervous system, circulatory, lungs, immune system, digestive system, urinary, very basic reproductive. And, each of these major topics is broken into subtopics that explore in detail. There are also sections about twins and multiple births, growing older, eating well and communicating. For older children, there is a reference section and Curiosity Quizzes throughout. I anticipate my son gets a lot of mileage out of this book as I think he will grow into it. Plenty to keep him entertained now with deeper information that he will understand later. And it's DK- you really can't lose with DK. Information broken into bite size pieces, well-illustrated and well-organized. Great book.

This book is great! My daughter had to have a procedure done to look at her kidneys I was able to show her what they were going to look at. She enjoys learning facts and we had to read almost the whole book and it answered most of her questions. She is six. Thank you for reading i hope you are having an amazing day!!!

We bought this for our curious 4 year old - She looks at it with us and loves to ask; What is that? What is that? What is that? She then likes to share what she learned, it is nice to be able to pull out this book and answer her questions about what bone this is, or how do muscles work or where does poop come from. We picked this book specifically because, while it talks about reproduction and shows eggs / sperm, it does not show external genitalia.

This is my 3-year-old's favorite book right now. Like others, I do regret that it doesn't contain more anatomy details but it's great for explaining body processes. If his interest continues I will look for a more detailed book soon.
